Easy Blogging With Viviti.com

Posted April 1, 2008

Today I launched the blog you're reading thanks to Viviti.com - an easy to use (beta) content management system that's made primarily for people with no design or programming experience. Fortunately, it allows designers to upload their own designs as well, so that's what I did.

Although the documentation isn't complete yet, I'd still recommend Viviti to anyone looking for a simple solution to blogging. There are a bunch of ready made templates (they call them themes), and if you want to upload your own all you need to know is standards compliant css and xhtml (no funny code or square brackets). You can download a sample theme with a cheatsheet to get started once you log in.

Rather than a separate control panel to manage the content, you can edit your Viviti site in place using a toolbar and friendly ajax popup dialogs. This thing smokes Wordpress for simplicity in my opinion.

Since you can map a domain to your Viviti page via cname, I foresee Viviti being a terrific and (currently) free content management solution for web design clients. You'll need to request a beta key from Viviti to use it. Check it out and let me know what you think!

We'll be adding A record support soon too, for those that want to use their main domains!

(it's not technically valid to use CNAME records on a domain, only subdomains)

Shawn this sounds rad. I will have to check this out for my blog! I'll try and figure out how to use the css from my site to match stuff up.

You could totally use this for your blog. I'm working on some documentation that will help, although it's not complete yet:

In how much time I recieve the beta key ? I really want to thry this 'wonder' ; I am very curious .

Just starting up an artisan chocolate business and will anxiously wait for your new programme, as I do not know a thing about starting a website. Tried but to no success. Good going!

Hi Tammy & Audrey,

Thanks for commenting and trying things out. I'm sure you'll both find Viviti to be quite simple to use.

Unfortunately there's no shopping cart component yet (although it's on the roadmap), you could easily create Buy Now buttons in Pay Pal, and then copy and paste the Pay Pal code into a page on your Viviti web site.

Good luck!

Hi Sgan,

There's no definite schedule for when beta keys are sent out, but I expect you'll receive one within the month, when things are a little more ready :)

I will be setting up a Viviti site, but wish it could be as easy to use as the pagebuilder component at Geocities!

still waiting viviti...faster launch will be great shawn

I have a few questions aboiut Viviti.

1. Is it similar to Weebly?
2. Will it have the templates included on the Bravenet website builder?
3. Will you be able to buy domains or use domains on it, and if so, how much?

Thanks in advance.

Oh, I forgot, does it have a forum feature?

TCA: I answered you on the Viviti blog :)

Ok, thanks.

Haha, right on, thanks Jerrett for answering questions :)

Everyone, I just posted a massive release on the Viviti Blog today.

Great work Adrian! I haven't written to you yet, but here goes. Viviti is looking very promising to continue to improve and what not. My site in particular needs more work as well, and viviti has helped tremendously!

I wish i can get a beta key for Viviti ... :(

Hi my name is Madison I recently just lost my blog at uber.com because they went under and viviti seems the closest thing to uber if not better but how long must I wait to get a beta key, I'm very anxious and feel lost without a blog and angry at uber because i don't know where my stuff went
